Estranged From Adult Children?
You might be surprised by how common it is for parents and adult children to be on less than great terms. I'm not referring to the all too common cry, "Why don't they call or visit?" More friends than I can count on one hand have little or no contact with their grown offspring. These are good, caring people who often have no idea what caused the dissolution of the relationship. What can be done?
My good friend, Karen Wolfrom, MSA, RN-BC, CMC, is an Advanced Professional Member of the Aging Life Care Association and Asheville Unit Leader. Karen has provided quality guidance and advocacy for families of and older adults themselves since 2002. She is now leading a support group for Parents of Estranged Adult Kids (PEAK). If you'd like to be on Karen's wait list for her next group, please contact her directly. For an idea of the foundational material of PEAK support, see these Resources.
