Where There's Smoke...
Our Grand Plan for Serenity Program (G.P.S.) is attracting a growing group of High Vista residents. Maybe people are paying attention to the guidance on aging at home that's shown up in the news lately. Or folks are wondering how they themselves would cope if faced with the serious illnesses, multiple chronic conditions or loss of a significant other that too many of our neighbors are experiencing. Some of us are becoming more aware of differences in our eyesight, hearing, balance, mobility, driving aptitude - slight or advanced, these changes remind us that the Girl Scout motto very much applies to post-adult life: "Be Prepared". The Got Your Back Neighbor GPS Program is free. It's a do-at-you-own-pace workbook and three informal participant idea-swap discussions in May, July and September. Use this link if you'd like to receive the workbook, callmewillen@gmail.com.
The G.P.S. Home Maintenance Checklist for Spring: March, April, May includes, "Install fresh batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors" and "test and dust detectors". Here's a complete "Smoke Detector Checklist" from the National Fire Protection Association.
